Volgograd is one of the most rapidly developing tourist centers in the South of Russia with long-established traditions of historic tourism. On the territory of Volgograd region, there are 58 museums, 1,164 historic objects, 923 architecture sites, 9 artistic sites, more than 20,000 archeological sites, 162 nature sites.

Volgograd citizens and visitors enjoy boat cruises along numerous Russian rivers including the Volga, the Oka, the Don, the Kama, the Svir. Active tourism is in high demand, too, like cycling, horse-riding and walking along the special routes, kayaking and canoeing on the Don, the Khopyor River, the Medveditsa River and the Akhtuba. The salt lake Elton is famous for its holistic properties.
The largest salt lake in Europe and one of the largest in the world, Elton is located in southern Russia, near the border with Kazakhstan.For centuries Lake Elton was a favorite location for Russian rulers and nobles. One can still see remnants of Empress Yekaterina II's bath there.Today, thousands of Russians and tourists alike visit the lake every year for its healing qualities.
